Comic cover for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 10 issue 23.
This image is a newer version than what’s being used for the solicitations, but this is the image that will be used on the printed cover. The first covers for the Buffy and A&F volumes needed to be done quickly, so it wasn't until after I turned in the Buffy vol1 cover that I saw the issues with it. Luckily I was able to go back and improve it before press time.
I did an Angel & Faith variant for season 10 which will be available at WonderCon this month, info here ». Since there were already variants for this first issue of the new season, I took the chance to go especially gonzo.
For this first issue of season ten, Dark Horse requested that I do an iconic feeling action scene involving Buffy and a number of zompires/vampires. I really wanted to portray Buffy seeming at the peak of her slaying power, strong and unflinching. I tailored her pose, as I imagined she might look channeling Conan the Barbarian, via Frazetta...and set the action high on the hills, so that I could have a wide expanse of sky as backdrop, framing her, back lit by a bright moon.
I’ll be at NYCC for Dark Horse’s Whedonverse signing, with several other contributors, on Saturday the 12th. Details below: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12 12:00 p.m. WHEDONVERSE COMICS: Dan Dos Santos, Jane Espenson, Scott Fischer, Victor Gischler, Rebekah Isaacs, Georges Jeanty, Steve Morris (Angel & Faith, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity)
This Dark Horse’s full schedule.
